What to do in a Earthquake by Joel

What is an Earthquake?
An Earthquake is a sudden violent shaking of the ground, typically causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action.

Last week our class learned about what we should do in an Earthquake. First of all, what should you do before an Earthquake?
Practice an Earthquake drill and identify a safe place.
To plan for survival, you will need supplies for at least 3-7 days. You will need food, water, a torch, blankets, a first aid kit and washing supplies. What should you do while an Earthquake is happening? Go out to a very open place. If you can’t go out of the building,  drop, cover and hold, where there’s  no windows or stuff that can fall onto you.

What should you do after an Earthquake? Contact all of your friends and family people to see if they are okay. If a friend or family member has found a safer place go there if you can.

"Over the Rainbow" by Aidan

We asked Aidan's sister to help us by writing down his favourite songs.  Then we used his talking device to identify his feelings and emotions about the music track he likes most.

Manaiakalani & Me by Mina

Last week, I went to the Panmure yacht club with one of my staff members, Shyama to represent our school as “the Manaiakalani ambassador” once again. There were a lot of people from the Manaiakalani Trust, and some teachers and principals from the different schools. A group of students from Point England School sang the welcome song and then said a prayer before we all started.
I was really nervous at first when I was watching some of the ambassadors having their turn. It was then my turn to go up and deliver my presentation about my work including my main topic about “Disability Parking’’. Everyone there enjoyed and laughed together watching our movie. I felt so proud of myself, my class and my school.20170825_094224.jpg20170825_094053.jpg

THANK YOU Manaiakalani!!!!!!

Visit to the Dentist By Joel

Yesterday our class went to the Dentist to check on our teeth. We went in the school van. It was at Pt. England School. When we got there we waited for our turn to go see the Dentist. My Dentist, Heidi said “Hi” to me and she sat me down. She checked my teeth and she said that I have done a good job at cleaning my teeth but I do have a little hole in one of my teeth. So I’ll have to go back to the Dentist some time to get it sorted out. Next, she took me to the X-Ray room to take an x-ray of my teeth. After that was done, she took me back to the dental room to clean my teeth. I had a really fun time at the Dentist but I was a little bit disappointed that I had a hole in one of my teeth. Doing P.E with the Edgewater year 13

On Monday the 7th, our class did PE with the year 13’s of Edgewater College. First, we got changed into our PE gear. Then we went into the big PE room. Next us and the year 13 students got into two teams. After that, we did some warm ups like throwing the ball into the net and the other team did table tennis. Then we played some games like tagging, Simon says, soccer and duck duck goose. The tagging one was really fun because we had to run across the room and try to not get tagged by the taggers. In one soccer game, I got some goals. I was really proud of myself. The last game we played there was duck duck goose. Then we went back to class. I had a really fun time playing with the year 13’s.

Meeting "The Great" by Mina

Today we had a chance to meet one of the great New Zealand Olympians and it was so good to listen to his story about his journey.
In the end, few of us went to the front and learnt some tricks about weight lifting.
